While some vehicles, like the Kia Forte, have been completely redesigned en route to a new generation for the 2019 model year, others have received a smaller makeover to simply keep things fresh. One of the vehicles that fit into the latter description is the all-new 2019 Kia Optima near Providence RI. Unlike the Forte, the Optima wasn’t reimagined from the ground up, but it did receive some design enhancements and a ton of new technologies and other features.
It’s no surprise that the Optima wasn’t completely redesigned for this year, as it just entered its fourth generation for the 2016 model year a few years ago. However, it was the perfect time for a mid-generation refresh, to bring its design a bit closer to the Stinger’s, which is the direction the whole lineup seems to be taking.
The base Optima LX features a new matte gray grille design and redesigned 16” alloy wheels as well as standard LED daytime running lights. The S, on the other hand, received a massive amount of new design cues: projector beam fog lamps, LED taillights, dual exhaust, sport side sills, a gloss-black grille and similarly redesigned alloy wheels, though this time 18”. Further enhancements were made to the EX, SX and SXL models as well.
When it comes to features, the most notable updates come to the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems suite of technologies as well as the UVO telematics and infotainment system. The former features technologies like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keep Assist, while the latter now features compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside a host of other updates.
